Retailers: Improve your category pages before building links to your site

The default response to most SEO ranking challenges is “we need more links”. It’s often an uncontested view; and one I hear often.

Much of the time, you may feel obliged to compensate with more links, but you’re really compensating for inadequate pages. Some of course, are better than others.

There are swathes of commercially orientated queries in Google’s search results where the top 6 pages have no, or very very little copy on them. And you can compete with that easily if you’re willing to find a design solution to adding more content to your pages.
